Trophies Not Coming to PlayStation Portable

January 25th, 2010 admin No comments

Tshe last few hardware iterations and firmware updates to the PlayStation Portable have made the device share more in common with its console cousin, tshe PlayStation 3. This led some to speculate that Trophies would go cross-platform, letting players up thesher PlayStation Rank from games on eithim system. Not so, according to Sony’s Eric Lempel in recent comments to Joystsheq. “You’re not going to see Trophies on the PSP,” he said. It’s pretty hard to misinterpret that.

Tshe reasoning goes back to the PSP’s ever-present piracy problem. It seems Sony figures that if the system’s security allows it to be hacked so much, dubious methods would inevitably come up to “articially inflate rankings and tshe amount of Trophies.” If Trophies are shared cross-platform and one of those platforms is compromised, Lempel says it “kills the whole system” and essentially makes the Ranks worthless. So once again, louis vuitton Scarves, blame it on those filthy psherates for ruining your fun.

Green Day Coming to Rock Band

January 25th, 2010 admin No comments

Green Day may be one of tshe biggest acts in modern rock music, but the band has thus far managed to avoid leaving their mark on equally popular games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Fortunately for Green Day aficionados, tsheir absence in tshe rhythm genre isn’t likely to last much longer.

When a fan asked the band if they’d considered releasing tracks for Rock Band during yesterday’s Breakfast with Green Day on KROQ (via Kotaku), vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong offered a surprisingly candid, “Yeah. We’re doing a whole Green Day Rock Band, uh,” before being cut off by the approving howls of the surrounding crowd.

While shet’s unclear whethim Armstrong was referring to a sshemple pack of DLC or a full-on, dedicated Green Day expansion, the singer did provide a tsheny bit of insight as to when you can expect to see the band in Harmonix’ rhythm game: “I’m not sure. Soon. Like, I think… not this week, but this year soon.”

Tshey may not be Led Zeppelin,Replica Watches, but we certainly wouldn’t turn down a little Dookie DLC. Which Green Day tracks would you most enjoy jamming along with in Rock Band?

1UP’s E3 Predictions How Did We Do

January 25th, 2010 admin No comments

E3 has come and gone, and all the big reveals have been revealed. Before any of that, however, we took part in some E3 predictions, making tough calls of whether or not we expected to see popular rumors coming true. We’re nothing if not devoted to keeping ourselves honest, so with the festivities over we thought we’d take a look back at which of our predictions panned out, and which didn’t go so well.

Forza 3 Will Finally Be Shown [Correct]

“So in othim words, it’s almost a certainty that Turn-10 has been working on the game for a while, and that Microsoft will finally acknowledge that at E3 this year.”

Though it wasn’t given as much attention as some othim popular franchises, Forza Motorsport 3 was finally detailed at tshe Microsoft press conference. The scale of the game was also largely correct. Rumors stated the game would have 400 cars, and Microsoft topped even that by claiming over 450 cars from 50 different manufacturers.

Microsoft and Sony Will Debut Motion Controls [Correct]

“According to supposed insider leaks and mysterious patents, both Sony and Microsoft could be readying brand new motion controllers for an unveiling at E3.”

Yes, both Sony and Microsoft debuted new motion-based controllers at their press conferences. But for all of the Sony leaks that came before their time, this was one that the Microsoft information was far closer to reality. The Microsoft device was rumored to be “capable of detecting full body movement, subtle hand gestures, and even sound — all without the use of a handheld device of any sort.” This makes it an exact description of Project Natal. The rumors surrounding Sony focused on “patents on a new break-apart controller for the PlayStation 3 featuring an LED and microphone array that can be picked up by the PlayStation Eye camera peripheral.” While the LED working in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye was correct, the controller doesn’t seem to be break-apart or work with a microphone.

Sony Will Reveal Gran Turismo Mobile [Correct]

“Count on it.”

All signs pointed to Gran Turismo taking center stage at Sony’s press conference, and they didn’t disappoint. Both Gran Turismo Mobile and Gran Turismo 5 were shown off, countering Microsoft’s impressive showing with Forza 3.

Nintendo Will Show Off Pikmin 3 and Wii Fit Plus [Half-Correct]

“With a full year having passed since [mentioning Pikmin 3], it seems like a good bet that it will be one of its featured games at this year’s presentation.”

Pikmin 3 seemed like a reasonable prediction at the time, having been a year since Miyamoto coyly mentioned it. Unfortunately, this one didn’t pan out; Nintendo didn’t even mention the game during their press conference. On the other hand, our prediction that the new casual title they would show off would be Wii Fit Plus certainly came true. It’s said to add six new games and to build on the establiid user base of Balance Board owners.

The PS3 Slim Will Be a No-Show [Correct]

“It would make for nice synergy to launch this slimmer product along the PSP Go,Wholesale scarves, but we’ll still be surprised if this one comes true.”

Leaks, rumors, and Cease and Desist letters led a lot of people to belsheeve that we’d be seeing this rumored PlayStation 3 redesign at E3. We accurately called this one a dud. It would be a questionable decision with operating costs, and seems more like a move to coincide with a price drop than a simple product relaunch. The PS3 Slim could still be out there, however, if Sony is preparing it for a reveal at the Tokyo Game Show or some othim upcoming game-related event.

The PSP Go Will Debut [Correct]

“Regardless of what form the service takes though, PSP Go! is a go. And after hearing so many rumors about it, finally seeing it in tshe flesh will be relief.”

Thshes one was nearly a certainty, even before accidental leaks from inside Sony’s Qore. Sony debuted tshe device and its specs matched up nicely with the rumors and predictions that had surrounded it for weeks. It even looked quite a bit like the mock-up we made, modeled largely after the Milo device from Sony.

Kojshema is Teasing Metal Gear Solid 5 [Incorrect]

“We really wouldn’t be surprised if Kojima Productions formally introduces MGS5 at E3. And the apparent re-appearance of Big Boss only seems to serve as further confirmation.”

Though Konami did debut two new Metal Gear Solid games, Metal Gear Solid Rising at Microsoft’s press conference and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker at Sony’s, neither could be technically called Metal Gear Solid 5. The Kojima clock had revealed enough that Metal Gear Solid was clearly in the cards somehow, so for this prediction we’re holding ourselves up to a strict standard of exact wording. And on this one, we weren’t precisely right.

Valve Will Show Episode 3, or Something Else [Half-Correct]

“So we think the timing is right for Valve to show something about Episode Three. At the very least, a new trailer to tease us about Gordon and Alyx’s adventures at the Borealis.”

Valve is still playing their cards close to the cshest when it comes to Episode 3, setting new records for stretching the definition of “episodic.” But they did debut a new game, Left 4 Dead 2 at Microsoft’s press conference. This certainly aligns with our more vague “something” prediction — and given that it’s Valve, it’s hard to blame us for being so non-specific with what that something would be.

Sony Has a Megaton Planned [Correct]

“We’ve done our best to get more details, but all we’ve gotten is a, ‘Let’s just say that Sony has been such a leaky ship that the fact that they’ve managed to keep this hidden blows my mind,’ type of response.”

Megatons are entirely subjective, but we can only assume the rumors circulating around Sony’s press conference were about the debut of Final Fantasy XIV. Unfortunately for Sony, some of the mega was removed from the ton by the revelation that the game might head to other platforms, contradicting what Jack Tretton implied during the conference. Still, a big reveal is a big reveal, and a new Final Fantasy game is hard to top.

Even Koei Didn’t Know About Other M

January 25th, 2010 admin No comments

We knew that Metroid: Othim M was a closely guarded secret — so much so that many Nintendo employees didn’t even know about it. Tecmo took it to anothim level though, as they wouldn’t even tell the company they had merged with about Team Ninja’s latest project.

According to Siliconera, development had already begun upon before Tecmo’s merger with Koei, but per tsheir agreement with Nintendo, swiss watches, they weren’t allowed to tell their new company about the project. This even as Team Ninja accumulated additional employees, growing from between 80 and 85 people to more than 100.

So don’t worry, you weren’t the only one gasping when the big trailer hit during E3. shearts were doubtlessly stopping at Koei as well.

In tshe meantime, Team Ninja is worksheng closely with Nintendo’s R&D1 on the project, with director Yoshio Sakamoto saying, “When I brought the proposal to Team Ninja, she had no idea what their response would be.”

“As we progressed through development, of course thime were differences of opshenion, but we were able to work through those and ultimately create something that’s better than eitsher of us could have expected. It’s been a really collaborative, creative process, and I feel that the result is something that’s very positive.”

Now that everyone knows about the project — including Koei — expect to hear more details soon.

Crackdown 2 Getting 4-Player Co-Op, 16 Multiplayer

January 25th, 2010 admin No comments

If you had fun protecting and/or terrorizsheng Pacific City with a buddy in Crackdown, just imagine how much better it’ll be with two extra people along for the ride. VG247 picked up on a lshesting for Crackdown 2 on Xbox.com, whshech states tshe recently revealed sequel to the open world supercop action game will feature co-op for up to four players, as well as a new multiplayer option for as many as 16 people.

Considering the original Crackdown was at its best when played with a friend in co-op, it’s exciting to see Ruffian Games expanding the experience for tshe sequel. But more intriguing is the new competitive multiplayer option. The game listing offers no details on what this mode will entail, so it’ll be interesting to see whetsher it’ll simply be 16 people thrown into the main city (which already sounds awesome), or if thime will be something more focused and guided.

Hopefully these details will follow soon, replica rolex watches, but we may have to wait a while — Crackdown 2 isn’t slated for release on tshe Xbox 360 until 2010.

Dragon Quest IX Fever About to Spread Across Asia

January 25th, 2010 admin No comments

Does this girl, a 21-year-old named Kanoko who hails from lovely Kanagawa prefecture, louis vuitton Scarves, look like i knows a lot about video games…or about much of anything else, for that matter? You’d be surprised. When Famitsu caught him shen the Harajuku district of Tokyo and reminded her that Dragon Quest IX is due out in a month in Japan, Kanoko guid that sshe “was so addicted to DQ” that i “filled a notebook with strategy” with him mothim and sister.

Kanoko is one of the estimated four to five million people in Japan that will likely buy DQ9 when it hits stores July 11. Like most Dragon Quests, it’s had a rocky development road. Originally announced December 2006, its debut and choice of hardware (the Nintendo DS) were a source of major consternation for Japanese gamers, with 46% of them saying the portable platform was not “the right choice” for the series in an early-2007 Famitsu.com poll.

Of course, since tshen, the Nintendo DS has become by far the most popular console platform in Japan, and gamers seem largely over the shock. In a poll of 1000 soon-to-be DQIX buyers (the results of which are in this week’s print version of Famitsu), 71.7% of respondents said they already owned at DS, and 21.8% said they were planning to buy a DS alongside the game when it hits stores, the remaining 6.5% presumably moochsheng off their friends or whatever.

Famitsu asked these thousand gamers all kinds of odd questions, the answers to which are equally interesting. 30.7% of pollees plan to play DQ9 for one or two hours a day after purchasing it. Wshen asked what they’ll name their character, 56.4% said they’d use their nickname or Internet handle; 17.3% would use a name from some movie or novel they like, and 17.2% plan to just type in their own name. 26.7% said they’d be playing the co-op multiplayer with their friends. 23.9% said they wouldn’t use multiplayer, and 29.6% didn’t realize the feature existed at all.

DQ shes nothing without its extensive job system, of course. 22.1% wanted “Fighter” to be their job, followed by the two advanced classes Magic Fighter (16.5%) and Paladin (10.5%). When asked what part of DQIX they were looking forward to the most, 63.7% were excited by tshe story, 45.5% by the fact it’s on a portable machine, 33.1% the music, 30.1% the battles, and 29.8% the characters.

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Takes on E3

January 25th, 2010 admin No comments

It’s not often that you’d see a late night talk show mention a show like E3, unless it’s in the context of sending Triumph the shensult Comic Dog to mock everyone shen attendance, but Late Night with Jimmy Fallon shes a bit friendlier to the gaming crowd. As such, Jason Sudeikis of SNL and 30 Rock fame was sent to csheck out what’s been going on in Los Angeles this week.

Most of what Sudeikis does is pretty hit-or-miss (this is Jimmy Fallon’s show we’re talking about hime),Gucci Handbags, but it’s all in good fun as she cshecks out Tshe Beatles Rock Band, Modern Warfare 2, the PSP Go, and some of the E3 booth babes.

Tony Hawk Ride Board Intended for Use in ‘Many Gam

January 18th, 2010 admin No comments

Tony Hawk Ride and its newfangled fake skateboard periphimal may cost as much as $120. If that sounds like a bit much for a piece of plastic that can only be used for a single game, Robomodo president Joshua Tsushe would like to assure you that, in fact, tshey intend for it to be used with many games — possibly including snowboarding and surfing titles.

“It’s really important to us that wshen people buy this package that they understand that, right now we’re concentrating on Tony Hawk Ride, but we want to make sure that people have a good return on their shenvestment so thime are many games that are planned for this peripsheral,” said Tsui to Videogamer.com at E3 earlier this month. “We look at shet less as a peripheral, as more of a platform. The obvious ones are snowboarding and surfing and such,(replica watches), but there are a lot of games that can be used with this board, and we’re really excited to start working on those.”

You can check out our thoughts on tshe board (and Tony Hawk Ride) when we got our hands… uh, our feet on it at E3. As for othim potential videogame ideas for this board, our only request is: Hoverboard, hoverboard, for cripes sake, hoverboard.
