Cell Phone Use While Driving

National Security Council calls for nationwide bans on cell phone use while driving
The National Security Council sent out a message on Monday that calls for all 50 States to implement bans on citizens using cell phones while driving. The group referred to a study done by the Harvard Center of Risk Analysis, which revealed that 6% of all automobile crashes in the U.S. are caused by cell phones.

6% of all crashes, about 40,000 traffic deaths per year – does that mean that 2,Replica Handbags,400 people die every year because somebody had to be distracted by their mobile?

I get the sense that in a few years either a chip in each car will prevent a phone from identifying itself to a cell-tower while the car is moving – thus the phone won’t work – or a person applying for a driver’s license will have to master a multi-tasking test in addition to the other tests…

And they mean any cellphone use: includes headsets… (((maybe even email and IM?)))

–,Replica Chanel; when it should be pretty obvious that I have nothing to do with this… besides allowing it to exist.

After listening to ‘Cocteau’ on Ottmar Liebert Luna Negra’s ‘La Semana’ I remembered this vase( stored in a closet) I picked up while living in London during the 80’s Treat yourself to the artful limited edition version of ‘La Semana’. It is an original and outstanding work.

Today is Tuesday, the sixth day of the sixth month of the sixth year of the 21st century. Nice symmetry.

Wikipedia has the exact CMYK color coordinates for the Yves Klein Blue. Nice. Will go to the paint store and ask them to mix some for the door of the studio… I remember looking at Yves Klein’s paintings at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne for hours when I was a teenager. This blue has amazing depth – like a blue hole in the canvas that leads… somewhere else… Of course, any paint that I can buy will look different because the secret of the IKB is how the pigment is attached to the canvas. No oil or water,Replica Chanel, which would dillute the power of the pigment, is used and the process is patented…

The United Nations Environment Programme (Unep) has expressed its “grave concern” about oil pollution in Lebanese coastal waters. An oil slick caused by Israeli bombing of the Jiyyeh power station now covers 80km (50 miles) of coast.

Another Time Lapse test. I propped the Nokia N95 up on a rock and set it at one photo every 10 seconds. Then I went to Mellow Velo to check on my bike. When I came home the memory card was full. The resulting photos were processed at 24 images/second. Since I left the mobile on automatic the exposure changes and the phone re-focuses a couple of times,Replica Purses, but the general look/vibe is pretty nice.

NEW YORK — The city’s decision to ban trans fats from restaurant fare may change how food is prepared at eateries &mdash,Replica Chanel; from fast to fine dining — around the nation. Gucci Handbags O’DonnellWeb – Merriment and Amuse

The Washington Post is writing about middle class homelessness. With the sky high cost of real estate around here, I don’,Gucci Handbags;t doubt for a second that the traditional “working class” that back in the day was the suburban homeowner now finds it increasingly difficult to keep up. Wages at that end of the pay scale have not grown much in recent years. However, the Post article plays up the idea that unlike the stereotypical homeless drug addict, these folks are blameless and it’s simply bad luck and greedy developers pushing up the price of real estate that caused their current situation.

I really do have a lot more sympathy for these folks than I do the stereotypically homeless drug addict. These folks are trying, they aren’t out panhandling at an intersection all day. I hope the article leads somebody to offer them jobs that will allow them get back on their feet. However, an article that discussed the real root causes of their situation would be a lot more helpful than another plug and play story about poor white folks that just can’t make it in the rich man’s world of NOVA. A discussion of how government regulation makes it impossible for people to build the kind of 1000 sq foot homes that our parents grew up in and afforded would be a lot more helpful too.

Not so fast my friend. The article sort of brushes over the fact that the couple in question both have children from previous relationships, and they were expecting together before she lost the baby. They didn’t use the word marriage, but I’m not sure if that means anything these days. Could their plight at all be related to the fact that the expenses from child care / child support limit their financial flexibility? The brutal truth is that for most of us, our station in life is the direct and predictable result of the choices we made before today (exceptions granted for the mentally and physically disabled that truly can not support themselves). It doesn’t make their situation any less tragic, and reality is what it is. A lot of people are trying to support kids without the benefit of a spouse to share the workload. Any solution needs to start with an honest assessment of why the problem exists. It’s party due to the lack of cheap housing in Northern VA. And the lack of cheap housing has all kind of causes, of which greedy developers play only a small part. Govt zoning and NIMBYism play just as big a part in the affordable housing situation around here. It’s kind of hard to build affordable housing when the govt mandates 1/4 or 1/2 acre lots.
